Barbara Certification Program

This article refers to Platform v3.3.0. The current Platform version is v3.3.0.

Overview

The Barbara Certification Program is the official training and accreditation initiative for the Barbara Platform. It is aimed at professionals working with edge computing in industrial environments who want to certify their skills in managing edge nodes, deploying applications and AI models, and developing applications optimised for the platform.

The program has two certification levels:

  1. Level 1 — Edge Administrator — node administration, deployment, and high-availability operations.
  2. Level 2 — Edge Apps Developer — application development and optimization on top of Barbara.

Each level has prerequisites, learning paths, and an evaluation method.

Level 1 — Edge Administrator

Level 1: Edge Administrator certifies your ability to manage and orchestrate edge nodes, deploy applications and AI models, and operate the platform's High Availability features. Participants learn to register nodes, manage resources, and deploy applications efficiently and securely.

Requirements

  • Complete training modules T.0 to T.3 (if you are a customer or partner with a personalized training plan), or attend a TechDive Session within the two months prior to applying. TechDive Sessions are monthly interactive sessions with Barbara engineers exploring real use cases and answering participant questions. Register for the next session at the TechDive registration page.
  • An active account on the Barbara Platform. If you do not have one yet, you can sign up for a 1-month free trial at barbara.tech/edge-ai-platform-trial.

Evaluation method

The evaluation has three questionnaires (each requires ≥ 80 % correct answers to pass) plus one practical exercise:

  1. Questionnaire 1 — Edge node management.
  2. Questionnaire 2 — Applications and AI models management.
  3. Questionnaire 3 — High Availability.
  4. Practical exercise — deploy and configure a use case.

Successful participants receive an official certificate, valid for one year, recognizing their expertise in edge-node administration.

Level 2 — Edge Apps Developer

Level 2: Edge Apps Developer is aimed at professionals developing and optimising applications for deployment through Barbara. It evaluates knowledge of Docker (the container technology Barbara uses) and the conventions for packaging and configuring containers for optimal performance on edge nodes.

Requirements

Evaluation method

The evaluation has two parts, each assessed independently:

  1. Theoretical questionnaire — covers Docker fundamentals, Compose configuration, persistence, networking, secrets and configuration management, resource limits, and restart policies. Requires ≥ 80 % correct answers to pass.
  2. Practical exercise — deploy and configure an application on a Barbara Edge Node following the exercise brief. Requires the application to be correctly deployed and ≥ 80 % of the individual technical checks in the brief to pass.

The certification result is PASSED only if both parts are individually passed. Successful participants receive an official certificate, valid for one year, accrediting their skills as Barbara application developers.

Why get certified?

Certification proves you can work with the Barbara Platform at a professional level, showing that you can deploy, manage, and build applications in real industrial environments. In a fast-growing field like Edge Computing and Edge AI, this builds credibility with customers and teammates. Certified professionals also gain access to a shared learning community and to updated training resources as the platform evolves.
